Holley Performance Carburetors
How to choose the correct sized carburetor for your engine (Watch the video below or do the formula below based on a 406 CID SB Chev with a maximum RPM of 6500.
406 CID X 6500 RPM = 2,639,000 divided by 3456 = 764CFM - You would then choose a 750 CFM Carburetor based on 100% volumetic efficiency, that formula would be good for a performance application where your, manly focused on a mid to upper RPM perfomance potential, if you go a little smaller on the carb it's going to give you better load and mid end charactics as far as thotle response and general load & RPM driveability if you look at this engine at a 85% volumemetic efficensy which you normally have in a street stock/mild application you would then use about a 650 CFM Carb. The general difference of a 100 CFM can really make a broad difference when it comes to the overall characteristics and driveability of a vehicle!
