How to Choose the Right Carburetor Size
To find the perfect carburetor size, calculate your engine's maximum airflow needs based on your engine size and maximum RPM.
The Formula:
(Engine CID × Max RPM) ÷ 3,456 = Max CFM
Example (406 CID Chevy @ 6,500 RPM): (406 × 6,500) ÷ 3,456 = 764 CFM
Select Your CFM Based on Driving Style:
- Track & High-RPM Performance (100% Volumetric Efficiency): Choose a 750 CFM carburetor to maximize top-end power potential.
- Street & Mild Performance (85% Volumetric Efficiency): Choose a 650 CFM carburetor. Dropping 100 CFM drastically improves low-to-mid range torque, throttle response, and daily driveability.
